The Flavors by Tanny

Good food and good ambiance, the first two things we consider in choosing the place to go when we eat out together with our families and or with friends. There are numerous Filipino restaurants here in Cebu but only a few can be considered authentic. Most of these restaurants are not only bringing culture and heritage to our plates but also brings back the genuine time wherein our ancestors were playful enough to come up with the common Filipino dishes we have right now. I’m grateful that there are Filipinos who are likely creative to fuse Filipino dishes with other cuisines, like how Mr. Constantine Tan-Chan brings Flavors by Tanny which offers  upscale, healthy yet affordable and good Filipino-Fused dishes to us here in Cebu. Flavors by Tanny opened last December and they will have their grand launching on the 15th of March 2014 wherein they will be raffling Ipad minis on that day (and I guess you don’t wanna miss it!)! You can get one raffle ticket for every 500 pesos accumulated in dining at The Flavors. You still have the time!

Mr Constantine, proudly tells you that Flavors serves not only good but also satisfying organic dishes with the Filipino touch. He promises the freshness and quality of the ingredients being used in every dish to make more dining here in Flavors warming and enjoyable.

Stepping in Flavors I was welcomed by the bright, airy and inviting atmosphere of the place, I loved the simplicity of the interior cause it makes the place wholesome and so natural. I’m a simple person so I’m easily pleased with simple things. Vivid colors, brown and green were comfort to the eyes and the set up was perfectly fit for the people who wants to have quality time with their families and friends.

Wide array of dishes were served for us to devour, to start we had The Tanny’s Organic Salad which is a fresh mix of garden greens topped with Alfalfa sprouts with spicy roe dressing. The greens were really fresh and the dressing bit amazed my palate, combination of sweet and spicy all together brushing with the creaminess gave a wonderful start to my eating adventure for that day

Tanny’s Organic Salad

The “Pho” Chero was the combination of our “Pochero” and Vietnamese rice noodles, this was a pot of gold which had the key to a full belly, beef was so tender (very slow cooked) and the noodles were so firm. You just have to get them together to fully enjoy it. This serves 3-4 hungry bellies!

“Pho” Chero

Those crispy Spring Rolls with Sweet chilli sauce also appealed my palate, carrots, celery and corn were wrapped and deep fried (I love their “lumpia”/ spring roll wrapper because they were not that salty) Hey, man! Don’t cut the guilt! Even if it’s deep fried, there are vegetables in it! So what? To wrap it up, outside is crispy but it’s not dry on the inside (Still, don’t judge a book by its cover!) and It was also kind of sweet on the inside. (I guess it’s because of the vegetable juices and the kind of oil used

Spring Rolls with Sweet chilli sauce

Another exciting dish was the “Chichaprawns” these are Prawns breaded with “Chicharon” or salted pork cracklings; Oh my, the toothsome combination, this dish was just simply incredible! The two great things I love, Prawns and Chicharon joined their forces to make an extraordinary dish. I can still remember how crunchy, and crispy and lustily good this dish was (I actually had two pieces with this, cause I usually limit myself with one because its breaded and deep fried). This dish by Flavors is a good reward after the workloads I had to do for school; I deserved the “Chichaprawns”! (Oh boy! I’m craving for more) Zhequia agrees with me in this! The chicharon had the delightful relationship with the mayonnaise so I have to cut it from here from here.

“Chichaprawns”

The Flavors Ginger Chicken Stew, was similar to our “Chicken Adobo”, it just had ginger in it. (heeee common sense for me hahaha). The chicken was tender and carried the gingery flavour, (for rice eaters like me) this dish will cost you another round of rice (don’t cut the guilt!). The mix was not new to me because my mum, loves to put Ginger in her home cooked “Chicken Adobo”, she loved it that way tho.

Flavors Ginger Chicken Stew

Next dish was the Flavors Kaldereta Special (Goat stew). The sauce was a bit tangy and sweet for me, but its good in a way and I have to say that it’s better than the ones  from Rex’s Kandingan sa SRP (you can check my post about it right here) because meat was fork tender and it didn’t have the not-so-good-goat-smell that we usually notice in goat dishes.

Flavors Kaldereta Special

To make room for the Carbs (CHO), Truffle Carbonara was laid next; I didn’t find anything special from the dish, like an ordinary Carbonara, it was creamy and sweet. The noodles were also firm but a small portion of it was enough for me..

Truffle Carbonara

Someone’s craving for Steak was fixed in here; USDA tenderloin steak with Flavors’ touch was served in a platter of happiness accompanied with veggies and mashed potato. Hmmm! I’ve been meaning for a medium rare steak for the longest and here, I met you my darling! This is 8 out of 10. This platter serves 3-4 heads, so good for sharing!

Steak Baby!

Zhequia and I both agreed that their mashed potatoes is one of the best Mashed Potatoes in town, this was smooth and not that creamy and this was peppery too (I’ kinda don’t like those creamy mashed ones cause they’re just so commercialized),

For our drinks, Z had the Mango Basil Shake while I had the Pineapple Kale Shake, the combination of Pineapple and Kale was beatific and so healthy indeed, you can't really taste the Kale cause the Pineapple was there to fill the whole drink. Z loves Basil so she had the Mango Basil, for me the Basil was overpowering but surprisingly, the combination was wonderful.

Hi 5 healthy drinks!
So, if you’re on a lookout for a perfect dinner venue, Flavors by Tanny is one great place for you, good healthy food and good ambiance joined together to offer a great dining experience to us Cebuanos.

Manggahan •••Opo pinoy style!

I always smile when I think about Mikey Bustos and his parody of the song "Oppa Gangam style" Which is the "Opo Pinoy style". (click this to see the video!) This inspired me to say (always as possible) that I should be a proud Filipino! And obviously, I got the title for this post from my closest friend Mikey Bustos (Feeling close! Nyahahaha) Hi Mikey! :))))))

But this post is not really about my friend, its indeed about a new place here in Cebu called Manggahan. This is the best place for you and your friends or your family to unwind and have good food in reasonable prices. Designed with elegant and idealistic furniture's, the overall joy and feast brought by the place is worth every centavo. The idea of the name was taken from the big Mango tree at the back of the restaurant.  (~Manggahan in Cebuano means, where mango trees are grown)

Manggahan specializes in Cebuano cuisine and some more exotic stuffs that I know you yourself wants to try. To start,. have you ever tried or heard about the "crocodile sisig"?? Sounds unlikely true but yeah, they can serve you one. This is quite a swift from the regular pork, chicken and Bangus sisig, you should bring the brave foodie inside of you to try this one.

The dish was not actually as "gross" as you think, it just tasted like the pork sisig (just get the thought that its crocodile and you would surely enjoy this one) it was made special because it was topped with chicharon which added texture and flavor to the dish.

Nothing special remarks to the Deep Fried Hito or Fried Catfish but to their "Hito Mania" which you could enjoy at least 4 ways to make Hito special on your table. I salute you! (You could enjoy your Hito's with Tausi, in Ginataan, Adobo and Deep fried)

Hmm, as each dish was served on our table, I got an eye to this dish...

Is this Pochero? or what? Hahaha, then after being that curious I read the menu of Manggahan, it was sizzling Pochero, Cool! How could they get the soup? Its the best part of Pochero but artistically, the idea was extremely rare and a thing to be remembered.

But, why would you go to Manggahan if you can find these dishes anywhere in Cebu?? Not really bragging out but i'll state one reason why you should check out  Manggahan, its a  place in Cebu where you could enjoy "Pinoy-style Yakiniku"! Isn't that much enjoyable to cook your food on your own preferences? Cooking it with your own hands and enjoying each dish with the ones you love? Sounds so perfect and delicious :3

Manggahan settled tabletop grills along with a built-in exhaust to keep the place smoke free (cause you don't really wanna smell and stink like a grilled human being. ha, :P)

~Available to grill items are Tinae sa Manok, Pork Barbecue, Skinless Chorizo, Chicken skin, Batikon sa Manok, Atay sa Manok, Longganiza, Bontog, Chicken Barbecue, Lechon manok Bisaya.

You can also enjoy awesome drinks, liquor and cocktail at rock bottom prices, with cocktails beginning at 48 Php and BEER BELOW ZERO for only 35 Php per bottle.

So I guess, this is the end... Uhmmm wait, This Turon ni Tatang was one of the "sosyal" turon I've tried. Oh Boy! I never liked ice cream that much but this time I appreciated how both of them collided and matched with each other.

49/52 Milk Tea Float?

Being a marvelous milk tea fan (nothing beats milk tea! yey!) I've written some of the shops I've visited and found the sublime differences and uniqueness of each (go wander around my blog, you can find some posts of em)

Twas being-a-lazy-ass-day when my mom told me that Japengo has released this whatcha ma callin "Milk Tea Float" hmm, that's fresh so I allotted a day to try this one out.

So this thing

Chocolate Milk tea float+pearls and pudding :)

tasted like... MILK TEA FLOAT! :)

~Like the coke Float from Jollibee and Coffee float from McDonalds, it came with the vanilla ice cream floating like a glacier (Funny glacier LOL) on the liquid part of my drink.First sips were great, still enjoying the milk tea part but as the sweet vanilla ice cream continuous to melt, the liquid part becomes really really really sweet too. So you could like tell the waiter to adjust the sugar level down to 50% than the normal. (Just a suggestion ^.^) But the idea comes extraordinary and impressive. I guess its worth a try :)

I also got a try of their new flavors like the Cheese milk tea+Pearls and the Rose milk tea+Pudding. The cheese was surprisingly good just don't think that its cheese \m/

Cheese Milk tea :)

Rose Milk tea :)

Everything in the Food world deserves a try, so why don't you spend your hot afternoon sitting down with your milk tea float? Wouldn't it be nicer? :) But the weather seems disagreeing, Christmas is like 10 days from now, I can feel the cold air and as they say “Christmas Spirit" with children singing outside my house and the flashy lanterns and lights everywhere. Sadly, you can reserve your fantasizing thoughts for a milk tea float after Christmas :)

Advance Merry Christmas everyone ^.^

44/52 Bubble Tea Station!

One afternoon from school last semester, I came to drop by Banilad town center to have milk tea from Bubble Tea StationTwas exam week so hell yeah! I need to study for it. The cup of wintermelon milk tea from BTS made me happy and unleashed the bad vibes (you know the feeling of exams -.-)

Bubble tea station kiosk
The bubble tea kiosk is found right by the main entrance of BTC (Banilad Town Center) you can just order and bring your milk tea around while looking for stuffs to buy around the mall. They also settled chairs by the side for you to sit down while waiting for the time to pass by while enjoying your milk tea.

As I said above  I had their wintermelon milk tea which was good, one of the best I should say. The price was reasonable and the taste was excellent. I had it with egg pudding that it made it more sweeter (I forgot to adjust then sugar level)

Luckily! Some people from Zee Lifestyle Cebu and the owner of Bubble tea Station Meyan Lim Young was there. Had a lil conversation with the owner and after introducing myself, she gave me a treat from her Asian food stall The "Small Eats" found outside BTC (right wing, beside potato corner)  which is a stall that could offer shabu-shabu to go and some Asian street foods! :) She handed me this Seafood Tofu drizzled with sweet and sour sauce that made me salivate and I was really ready to attack it :)) It was a healthy snack, #tofu

The Seafood tofu was so good, I enjoyed it with my milk tea. You can also order in Bubble tea if you want some of these treats, theyll serve it with your milk tea ;)

39/52 Pop's Chick n'steak

Whenever you are hungry or you are not in your house where do you prefer to eat?  To a place which could offer good food in an expensive way (restaurants) or to a place which is cheap but not really that fulfilling and sometimes you can't just expect to enjoy the food considering the cleanliness of the surrounding and the way the food is prepared (Lutong Bahay or "Carenderias") or to a fast food which is considered fast but unhealthy if its taken all the time. It's time for some people to know what they are eating and acknowledge the choices of the places they could enjoy and feed their belly with gratifying food in reasonable prices.

So Pop's chick n'steak opened another branch in Robinsons Fuente Osmeña which has wider menu than the branch in Talamban across USC-TC. Now they have varieties of snacks and dishes suitable for students and families that are good for sharing.
